Broken Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and their surrounding tissues.

They help the elderly and those who have had unfortunate accidents restore their lost smiles.

There are two types of dentures – complete and partial dentures. When all of the teeth are lost, complete dentures are used. When some natural teeth are gone, partial dentures are used.

At Preston Supreme Dental, we don’t only ensure the health of your natural teeth but also your restorations.

If your dentures break, we are here to serve you. We offer same day emergency care so you can have your smile back in no time!

Common Causes of Denture Breakage

Although durable, dentures are not permanent. They work for a period of time, and one that is sometimes shortened for the following reasons:

Abuse. Eating foods that are too hard or sharp contributes to denture breakage. Biting down too vigorously on hard objects also causes your dentures to break.

Another factor that can damage your denture is the consumption of very hot or cold foods and beverages. You need to be careful and keep in mind that dentures are just replacements and are not as durable as our natural teeth.

Accident. It is advisable that dentures be removed every night to take care of the gums. One common cause of accidents with dentures is slipping from the wearer’s hand.

Each time you remove your dentures, there is a chance that they might slip out of your hand and fall on hard surfaces.

Poor dental job. Cases of imperfectly fitted dentures do occur. This is often due to a patient seeking a cheaper priced dental job. This results in discomfort on the part of the wearer.

It is like wearing too tight or too loose shoes. It is not recommended to go to unlicensed individuals who make dentures for a low price. This might lead you to higher expenses when complications occur.

What To Do When Your Dentures Break

In case your dentures break, visit your dentist immediately. Do not try to repair them with denture repair kits available in the drugstore.

They are often ineffective and might cause worse damage to your dentures. Leave the repairing part to your dental technician. They know what to do.

  • Depending on the damage, a mould of your mouth may be sent out to have a dental technician make a new denture.
  • If the denture is not severely broken, your dentist can repair it right away.
  • If there are minor issues in your dentures, see your dentist immediately for consultation.
